Pope Resigns Amid Growing Scrutiny in Europe

The Pope has resigned as head of the Catholic Church, effective February 28, 2013.  He is the first Pope to resign in nearly 600 years.  While the official reason he gave is ailing health, the timing of his resignation comes as more and more European governments and investigators are scrutinzing his involvement in the child sexual abuse scandal in the decades before he became Pope.
